Rite of Passage Art is an exploration of art making as a way of knowing, an expression of sense of place, a way to relate to nature, a communication with personal and collective archetypes, and our personal relationship to the play between light and shadow within and around us.
RITE OF PASSAGE ART
I am a visual artist, dancer, and facilitator based in the Monterey Bay / Big Sur area. Drawing inspiration from my ancestral stories and myths as road maps to healing, my work delves into the metaphorical journey of descent and ascension and themes that express deep layers of identity and belonging. I explore these themes through dance, mask making, mandalas, photography, Pointilism, landscape painting, and collage. Through my art, I invite viewers on a journey of my self-discovery and personal healing. Drawing on my background in dance, I use movement as a way to connect to a deeper understanding of both personal and collective stories. My work is a reflection of my belief that dance is not only a form of expression, but also a powerful tool for being in relationship with one's innermost self. My art serves as a catalyst for transformation and growth.
I am the creator and founder of Rite of Passage Art and Rite of Passage Dance. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College and a Master’s in Fine Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and Writing from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am currently enrolled in courses in the Women’s Spirituality department at the California Institute of Integral Studies pursuing a Ph.D in Women’s Spirituality with a focus on Ritual Dance Theatre and frame drum and dance practices of Southern Italy.
