anna sardina
Anna Sardina is a visual artist, dancer, and facilitator based in the beautiful Monterey Bay area. Her work delves into themes that express deep layers of identity and belonging, drawing inspiration from her ancestors and their traditions. She explores these themes through dance and expresses them in her mandala pieces which reflect imagery that sybolize celestial balance, alchemical magic, archetypal figures, and geometric symmetry. Her photography explores a sense of place and home. Anna creates masks that express mythological narratives such as Descent and Ascension, and the aspects of ourselves we encounter in our own personal underworlds. She observes nature closely and creates small ink pointillism illustrations in an attempt to capture the layers and depth leaf colors. In her Spire series she expresses with acrylic paints her fascination with light and shadow and how they play and interact on the wilderness of the Big Sur back country. She has found artistic freedom in collage art which allows for a childlike playfulness in imagery composition. Her explorations of the mirror as metaphor and myths as roadmaps to personal rites of passage have opened up a portal of personal story telling. Through her art, Anna invites viewers on a journey of her self-discovery and personal healing. Drawing on her background in dance, she uses movement as a way to connect to a deeper understanding of both personal and collective stories. Her work in dance is a reflection of her belief that movement is not only a form of expression, but also a way of knowing and a powerful tool for being in relationship with ones innermost self. Anna's art serves as a catalyst for transformation and growth. Anna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College and a Master’s in Fine Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Art and Writing from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
